The Graduate School of International Studies offers courses in three disciplines: law, economics and management, and political science. Multidisciplinary programs require a certain degree of intellectual flexibility, a valuable attribute in the workplace. Depending on your area of specialization, you can also choose courses in geography, agriculture, or sociology.
Specialized courses are given by our partner faculties, mainly in social sciences, law, and administration, while ESEI is responsible for creating and giving interdisciplinary seminars. During these seminars, you can explore cross-cutting issues in Asian affairs, global health governance, international security, and other areas
Finally, at the end of your master's degree, you will produce a research paper or thesis drawing on two disciplines of your choice.
Learn more about our multidisciplinary master’s programs in International StudiesOur doctoral program, the only one of its kind in Canada, allows young researchers to delve deeply into a topic from the perspective of two disciplines of their choice under the guidance of a supervisor and a co-supervisor. The doctoral candidate’s coursework and dissertation are closely related to the chosen fields.

The intensive winter school course on the practice of international relations is required, and the other two courses are electives.

Themes are approached from multiple angles by speakers, academics, and practitioners from different disciplines and backgrounds. Programs address issues such as international security, natural resources, food security, and European integration.

The French-language journal Études internationales publishes research on international relations in the broad sense, including international development and trade.
