Given the investment that graduate studies represent, good budget planning is a must. The information below will help you consider possible forms of support and to plan accordingly.

Scholarships from the Graduate School of International Studies

Several scholarships are specifically for ESEI students: Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FESP) scholarships, 2 themed scholarships, and 2 international mobility scholarships for those participating in for-credit internships.

Marcel-and-Annie-Adams Scholarship

  • The Marcel-Adams Scholarships in international studies aim to recruit and support master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral students in international studies at the Graduate School of International Studies (ESEI).
  • Master’s: 3 scholarships for ESEI students: $10,000/year for 1 year.
  • Doctorate: 2 scholarships for ESEI students: $25,000/year for 4 years for a total of $100,000. 
  • Postdoctorate: 1 scholarship for a student hosted by the ESEI: $50,000/year for 2 years for a total of $100,000.
  • Doctorate: 1 scholarship for a student enrolled in a faculty associated with the ESEI, but supervised by professors who are members of the ESEI: $25,000/year for 4 years for a total of $100,000.
  • Application deadline: July 14 2023

Excellence scholarship for the master’s and doctorate in international studies

  • Objective: To underscore excellence in academic writing (essay, dissertation, thesis, semester assignment) focusing on the Maghreb (Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya)
  • Amount: $500 (essay, dissertation, thesis or semester assignment)
  • Domains: International studies, master’s or doctorate

  • $2,000 to $7,000  
  • Regular and admission scholarships for master’s and doctoral candidates whose research themes focus on the interrelationships between the environment, development, and society.

  • $5,000 to $10,000 a year  
  • Leadership scholarships for students who are Canadian citizens or permanent resident and who excel in the following areas: the arts, entrepreneurship, the environment, science, social and humanitarian action, or sports.

  • Scholarships for study abroad 
    - International profile: $3,000 
    - BCI student exchanges and general student exchange agreements: $2,000 
    - Joint degree program: $3,000
  • Out-of-province internship or research scholarships: $1,000
  • Grants for short mobility stays:  $500     
  • Washington Center Internship Program: approximately $3,500

Frontenac Scholarship

The Frontenac Scholarship is offered by Québec’s Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie (MRIF) and France’s Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères, through the Consulate General of France in Québec City (CGF).

Eligibility requirements and deadlines may change from year to year. We encourage students to refer directly to the organizations in question for further information.
