Anna-Lena Rüland s'est jointe à l'École supérieure d'études internationales de l'Université Laval à titre de professeure adjointe en diplomatie scientifique en octobre 2025. Diplômée d’un doctorat de l’Université de Leiden, elle a rédigé une thèse qui a pour titre: « Who Gets What, When, and How? An Analysis of Stakeholder Interests and Conflicts in and Around Big Science », qui porte sur les intérêts et conflits entourant les grands projets scientifiques internationaux
Dans ses recherches, Anna-Lena se concentre sur la diplomatie scientifique, la collaboration internationale en matière de recherche, la coopération Nord-Sud en matière de recherche et la sécurité de la recherche. Ses recherches ont été publiées dans des revues telles que Globalizations, Global Policy, Scientometrics et Technology in Society. Anna-Lena est rédactrice adjointe au The Hague Journal of Diplomacy et a occupé des postes de professeure invitée à Leiden University Institute of Advanced Computer Science et à la Global Business School for Health de l'University College London.
