Han Cheng

Professeur

Dr Han Cheng est chercheur senior à l’Institut Max Planck pour l’histoire des sciences à Berlin (MPIWG). Ses travaux portent sur la Chine contemporaine et ses manifestations à l’échelle mondiale, avec un accent particulier sur les relations sino-africaines et l’Initiative « Belt and Road » (BRI). Il est chercheur principal du projet financé par la Fondation Volkswagen intitulé « La Route de la soie scientifique de la Chine et la nouvelle géopolitique de la production de connaissances », qu’il codirige avec Anna Lisa Ahlers (MPIWG) et Hang Zhou (Université Laval). Ce projet constitue l’une des premières analyses approfondies de la coopération internationale de la Chine en matière de science, technologie et innovation dans le cadre de la BRI. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat en géographie de l’Université de Cambridge et a été chercheur invité au MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies de l’Université Yale. Auparavant, il était professeur titulaire à l’Académie chinoise des sciences et chercheur à l’Université nationale de Singapour.

Dr Cheng a commencé sa carrière au sein du gouvernement et continue de conseiller des organisations internationales de politique publique, notamment l’ONU, l’UE et le gouvernement britannique, sur la Chine et les affaires mondiales. Ses recherches ont été financées par le Cambridge Trust, la Royal Geographical Society, la Fondation Volkswagen et la Fondation Max Weber. Il est rédacteur de la revue Dialogues in Human Geography et membre du comité éditorial de Political Geography. Il est également éditeur de The People’s Map of Global China / Global China Pulse et siège au conseil consultatif mondial du réseau de recherche Chinese in Africa/Africans in China.
