Jean-Michel Marcoux est professeur adjoint à l’École supérieure d’études internationales de l’Université Laval depuis 2025. De 2021 à 2024, il a enseigné au Département de droit et d’études juridiques de Carleton University. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat en droit de l'Université de Victoria, d’une maîtrise en études internationales de l'Université Laval et d’un baccalauréat en affaires publiques et relations internationales de l'Université Laval. Il a également complété un stage postdoctoral à la Faculté de droit de l’Université McGill et a agi à titre de conseiller en litiges commerciaux pour le Gouvernement du Québec.
Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur le rôle des acteurs étatiques et non-étatiques dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre des normes internationales, avec un intérêt particulier pour les tentatives de responsabiliser les acteurs privés. Il s’appuie généralement sur les théories des relations internationales et les méthodes des sciences sociales pour examiner de manière empirique le droit international économique.
Jean-Michel est l’auteur de International Investment Law and Globalization: Foreign Investment, Responsibilities and Intergovernmental Organizations (Routledge, 2018) et co-éditeur de A Multidisciplinary Approach to Pandemics: COVID-19 and Beyond (Oxford University Press, 2022). Il est également auteur ou co-auteur de publications sur l’ordre public transnational, le développement durable dans l’arbitrage international, la renégociation de l’ALENA, la réforme du droit international de l’investissement, la faute contributive dans l’arbitrage des investissements, les disciplines des entreprises d’État, la fraude douanière et la méthodologie interdisciplinaire.
